Evenlode Class

Welcome to Year 5/6 Evenlode class!

Our teacher is Mr Webber and we also have Mrs Hodgson and Mrs Lee supporting us.

We have P.E on Tuesdays and Wednesdays but we need to have our PE kit in school at all times as sometimes we need it on other days.

Our homework is set each Monday and due in on Friday.

We have all of this term's spellings in our planners but we only need to learn one set each week.

For any questions or concerns please email admin@isbournevalleyschool.com

Forest School

Forest School uses the outdoor environment to help all children learn: they are encouraged to develop their independence, decision-making skills and practical abilities whilst learning to care for the environment around them. Many significant benefits have been reported from Forest School, such as improvements to confidence, social skills and learning abilities.

The children use the area adjacent to the school garden and the quiet area, and need to wear suitable clothing because Forest School takes place whatever the weather! They will need long sleeves on their top, long trousers and wellies. If it is cold, they will also need a warm coat. Waterproof suits will be provided by the school. It is also advisable to bring a spare carrier bag for muddy/wet boots. During Forest School sessions, the children enjoy hot chocolate and a biscuit. If you prefer your child to have their own drink and snack, please send this in on Forest School days.

Year 5/6 Forest School sessions will take place on a Wednesday afternoon. A letter will be sent home to confirm the dates before sessions start.

Homework

Reading

Please support your child by encouraging them to read three times per week and discuss the content of their reading with them: this can be anything from stories to newspapers to magazines!

Maths

Maths homework will be set half termly as a booklet. This will including a marking page to support if children become stuck. We will celebrate this homework at the end of each half term. If your child is stuck or would like extra guidance then please let your class teacher know and they will be happy to help.

Please also continue to support your child(ren) learn all multiplication and division facts to 12 x 12 if they do not already know them - short daily sessions will have the most impact. TT Rockstars is great for practising times tables! This knowledge is key to helping them understand more difficult mathematical concepts in Years 5 and 6.

Spellings

Weekly spellings are set each Friday and tested the following Friday.

SPAG

Weekly SPAG work is set each Friday and self marks as part of the Quiz shed/Spelling Shed program.

P.E.

Evenlode will continue to have P.E. sessions with external coaches on a Tuesday afternoon so please ensure your child has their P.E. kit in school on this day. Every first half term, we will be doing P.E. on a Wednesday afternoon too, so please remember your kit.

We may do other physical activities during the week so if you would like your child to bring their kit home to wash, we recommend this is done on a Friday and brought back in on a Monday.

Please see our School Uniform page for PE kit details: https://www.isbournevalleyschool.com/uniform/
