Our Curriculum
Our children leave us understanding how to set high expectations for themselves. They have a love of learning, think and work independently and know that through persevering and not being afraid to make mistakes, they can achieve more than they ever believed possible.
Our children leave us having a strong sense of community. Through a range of experiences within lessons and beyond the classroom - such as Forest School, ‘family tables’ to eat lunch and regular House events - children are fully integrated into our school family and learn about working together, friendship, respect and fairness.
Our children leave us with an understanding of life beyond school. They learn about their local environment, heritage and culture, as well as that of the wider world. They develop their global awareness, making comparisons and connections between their own lives and those of others.
When the children start in their reception year at Isbourne Valley School they will follow the Foundation Stage curriculum.
From Year 1 the children are taught in mixed age group classes. The Foundation Subjects each have a two-year rolling cycle programme covering the National Curriculum. This means that children do not repeat topics. The curriculum is structured to make sure that children learn the skills and vocabulary appropriate to their age regardless of the topic being studied at the time. Our children enjoy a progressive learning; they retain and build knowledge and skills, make links and comparisons with previous lessons and topics and widen and develop their vocabularies. The rolling programme has been carefully designed so that this will happen regardless of whether children start each section of it in Cycle A or B.
